Pink Sky Dreams: To date, what’s been your favorite travel destination? What about this destination make it your favorite?
Kevin: To date my favorite place to travel has been Morocco. Marrakesh (Marrakech) also called "The Red City" is where I spent most of my time. It was amazing. I arrived night and stayed in a local Riad in the Medina area. The Medina is the old city and is one of the most authentic places I have ever visited. The Medina is filled with narrow streets, tiny alley, market places and historical mosques. You could get very lost in this maze and should have a guide like I did. In the city center, merchants come to sell and barter everything from food, spices, handicrafts, traditional clothes, henna tattoos and perfume. There are literally thousands of people out at 1:00 am! My Riad was a 20 minute walk on from the city center through the maze of souks and walls not passable by car. The culture, food and people were amazing. Street food, music and Moroccan culture is all in abundance in the Medina.
Pink Sky Dreams: What do you love most about travel? What is your favorite thing about traveling?
Kevin: I love so much about travel that I can write 100 things that I love about it! I enjoy the adventure the most. Going somewhere new be it a city I've never been to in the states or traveling aboard. I am like a big kid seeing the sights only seen before in a book, TV or Internet. There are so many adventures in different countries that I can't necessarily do in here in Atlanta. I am not a foodie, yet I can't pass up the opportunity to try different food. I also love meeting new people and learning new cultures. I've learned that no matter where you travel to, someone is always willing to talk to you about their culture and their city. I do the same here in Atlanta. I've been to the ML King center over 50 times never passing up the opportunity to take someone who has never been before.
Pink Sky Dreams: Name something positive you that you took away from your last travel adventure.
Kevin: My last travel adventure was taking my 10 year old son on a weekend trip to Paris. Traveling is so educational for kids. It helps them with school, conversations and gives them more confidence. The one thing that I took away is that kids are the same no matter what country they are from. The hotel in Paris had a day room and 5 boys including my son were all playing foosball only 2 could speak English, 2 French and one Dutch. They had a blast together. Its so rewarding to show children something different then what they are use to.
Pink Sky Dreams: Tell me about your favorite vacation picture and why it’s your favorite.
Kevin: My favorite travel picture, I have so many, is of my son in Paris. When we arrived we hit the ground running to do some sight seeing. It was a long day but he enjoyed it and he was ready to see more after we finished dinner. He was so excited to explore and see the points of interest we Googled while on the plane.
Pink Sky Dreams: Which destination is currently at the top of your travel bucket list? What intrigues you about this destination?
Kevin: My bucket list is always growing but right now planning my trip to Cairo is the current focus. What's intriguing, after the pyramids, is to travel back in time while exploring the country's ancient temples which are filled with interesting carvings, paintings and hieroglyphics. The Egyptian history is so fascinating. Visiting the Sphinx of Giza which dates back to 2500 BC. will be the highlight of my trip. The plan is for us to do some exploring like Indiana Jones.
Here are a few of Kevin's favorite vacation pictures from travels to Paris and to Morocco.
